Balai KSDA Sumatera Barat menutup jalur pendakian Jalur Proklamator Taman Wisata Alam (TWA) Gunung Marapi, penutupan ini berlaku mulai dari tanggal 30 Desember 2022 sampai dengan 2 Januari 2023. Berdasarkan informasi dari PVMBG, aktivitas kegempaan Gunung Marapi meningkat per 25 Desember 2022, dengan status Gunung Marapi naik dari siaga menjadi awas.
Penutupan ini juga bertujuan untuk menjaga kawasan agar tetap terjaga keutuhannya dengan merujuk hasil penelitian tentang daya dukung kawasan, untuk kawasan Taman Wisata Alam Gunung Marapi hanya mampu menampung 150 orang pengunjung dalam suatu masa kunjungan, dengan dasar lebar jalur, panjang jalur, tempat berkemah, sumber air hingga kelengkapan sarana termasuk akses masuk kawasan, sekaligus mengoptimalkan posko penanganan corona virus desease (2019) din tingkat Desa dan Kelurahan untuk pengendalian penyebaran COVID 2019 sebagai tindak lanjut Perda Nomor 6 Tahun 2020 tentang Adaptasi Kebiasan Baru (AKB) dalam rangka pencegahan dan pengendalian penyebaran COVID 2019.
Kepala Balai KSDA Sumatera Barat Ardi Andono S.TP, M.Sc menghimbau semua pengunjung/wisatawan Gunung Marapi untuk menahan dulu keinginannya untuk mendaki saat ini untuk keselamatan diri dan untuk keutuhan kawasan TWA Gunung Marapi.
